SELF-REFLECTION 3:

How I came up with this lab report was from my memo. I have suggested to the office of facilities about this topic since it is an ongoing issue to the City College community. I already had some of the resources to suggest how the CCNY shuttle buses can be resolved and improved for many commuters within going to and from the college. I suggested myself this would be the ideal topic to research and I want to contribute how the CCNY government can help fix the shuttle bus issue over the past years the community has faced.

What I had done to research my topic was researching specific colleges and institutions on how they helped with their bus schedule. The research contributed to this lab report has shown largely to possible solutions the institution can offer to solve this problem. The observations gained from my research was that there was a lack of CCNY Shuttle Buses that it’s impossible to maintain consistent bus stops due to large traffic jams going to and from CCNY which shows longer wait times.

I did find this topic fun and great to find out because it impacts my day to day routine due to sometimes taking the bus when I go to school. This topic made me think of how school-based activities are sometimes impacting ours daily routine and made me have a lens on a different situation. Since this institution mythology is just to get a degree by focusing on academic work, it made me think on participating on activities in the community where the students have a say in this very institution. The research was quite fun however it is challenging due to this pandemic going on. It made my research even more challenging when I try to research this topic since this has to do with talking with various groups of people as proposed before this virus impacted my college curriculum. It is not only that I am facing through this difficult time but all the students in the City College campus.

The research that I have done is more of articles, books, and videos produced by other members who had already researched this topic and use that to demonstrate a more possible solution for all authors would agree upon. With using the secondary sources, I understood the importance and how the authors tackle this situation on various ways which I understood as well.

How I would change this if I were to pursue this topic again is doing a primary research. Since this pandemic occurred, I and others are not able to go outside to communicate with others with this issue and I would do that more extensively. I would have more information then to have a more accurate data however given the circumstances, it would be a limited timeline.

Discuss how you went about selecting this topic. If there was a specific event that triggered you to write, discuss this event. If you are simply passionate about a certain topic, write about that.

I went about this topic because I wanted to discuss the concerns about the City College community at first on the memo and I have thought that Shuttle Bus service was one I should talk about and how it should still be fixed. I personally use this service when I commute from work to school using the Shuttle Bus service and I feel that this should highly be in need to be fixed. I was disgusted when I entered the bus by not having hand railings on the side for people to hold when the bus is in route and the service it provides to and from each stop towards City College. I felt when this assignment came around, I wanted to share my experiences about this and to share others how they similarly feel how CCNY budget is not spent well in this category. 

What was the overall message you wanted to communicate to the reader? Select a section of your memo, and tell me why this section communicates your purpose.

I would like to share the reader my message I am pointing across and how it should be on their mind to be address the issue to the faculty and vice president as well as the president of City College. I want to show this issue in a students and faculty’s standpoint due to paying these services as well as tuition to give us needs and services to run City College as a whole. These services are essential to our daily routine because every member uses at least one of these services to live upon City College and this is one of the services people generally use.

They might respond positively and will address the issue to others and will take it up to the matters of the upperclassmen to possibly fix the issue to an extent. They will possibly will communicate with me on this matter and will give advice on how they can solve this matter and will hear from other member(s) opinions about this as well.

Is there anything you might do differently, if you had to write this again? (Chances are, you will write a memo, one day!)

Instead of writing this to one specific audience, I would write this to the whole City College Community due to this topic being multiple audiences.

In Class Writing

• My process of writing is very simple, not too extravagant nor not as easy to describe, but in the sweet spot. I try to pick topics that is not as hard to write about and where I would be interested upon.

I had picked my topic by looking for things that I can write about and just so as I knew, I never write anything about a watch so I picked it. It was not as hard to describe it however the components of it was sometimes hard to describe because I and many others do not know what goes inside the watch and how it comes together.

• There was genre on this writing and it is mostly informational type of writing. I as the writer of the document, have to be ion neutral stance in this type of writing to describe what the item is and how it works. The purpose also influenced myself upon writing this by not ever looking as deep into the watch I have never been taught of.

• I did enjoy this assignment because it is more informational, neutral based and factual information to the readers where it can be either long or short. It is dependent upon the writer on explaining the audience how the item works and its relevance.

• What I have learned from writing this assignment are that to not write as much when it comes to describing an object and to use words with meaning so that all audiences can understand the term.
